The authors, who met as students at Yale University School, capture the open, friendly atmosphere of the district’s diverse community with all its qualities and quirks. In doing so, they concentrate on the residents’ perspective, using essays, interviews and photo spreads to show that responsible architectural planning goes far beyond building units. The title can be understood in this sense as both an homage to Mies van der Rohe and his colleagues and an appeal to today’s generation of architects.
