Our cover story: Sport & Design
When the World Cup kicks off on June 9, billions of people will follow the games. We have already taken a look at the most important product of the world’s largest sporting event: soccer shoes. The world cup models by Adidas, Nike and Puma no longer bear much resemblance to the shoes we have known for decades – they have morphed into design objects. We also present the design strategy of a very different sports brand: Swedish ski equipper Poc focuses primarily on safety and makes helmets that people actually like wearing. And Japanese graphics designer Kenzo Minami explains how graphics work on sports equipment.

Spiekerman returns
Our star columnist Erik Spiekermann gives the new documenta logo a thorough examination – after all, head curator Roger M. Buergel himself was involved in its genesis, contributing twelve strokes.

Making of
At the Ambiente fair, the new bags by Munich designer Stefan Diez, which (almost) do without seams and fastenings have already caused a stir. We describe the design process behind the collection Authentics plans to launch in May.
