How (not) to Make Design Matter

David Carlson, initiator and co-founder of several websites on the themes of design, design thinking, fashion and trends, has published a guidebook for responsible design entitled: ‘A Little Red Book about how to Make Design Matter’. It turns out, however, to be essentially a collection of truisms, adorned with fullpage pictures and peppered with imperatives in large type. Disappointingly, the author and the little red book’s design are clearly more geared towards the mass market phenomenon of pocket guide books than to providing any real in-depth advice to designers on integrated and sustainable design.
