Saarinen the Form Giver

Eero Saarinen is one of the most renowned architects of the 20th century. His best known designs include the TWA Terminal at JFK Airport in New York with its signature jutting roof. This monograph, entitled ‘Furniture for Everyman’, is the first indepth survey of Saarinen’s equally prominent furniture designs. It details the career of the Finnish designer born in 1910 in Kirkkonummi, who came into contact with the world of design and architecture early in life through his father Eliel Saarinen, also a successful architect. Like his buildings, Saarinen’s furniture, including his famous chair designs for Knoll, displays a clear, organic formal idiom, seen here in numerous (many previously unpublished) colour images, The book has a foreword by Florence Knoll.
